OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – Powered by junior Adam Bresnu's individual-leading 3-under-par round of 67, the No. 19 Texas Tech men's golf team leads the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational at Olympia Fields Country Club after Friday's opening round. The Red Raiders shot 1-under-par (279) as a team in the first round, jumping out in front of a stacked field that includes 10 ranked teams of the 15 in action.

Bresnu opened his first 13 holes flawlessly, carding five birdies, including four in a five-hole stretch across No. 8 and No. 12. He dropped three shots over the final five holes, but picked up a sixth birdie on the day on the par-5 16th hole to ultimately wrap his round with a one-shot lead over a 4-way tie at 2-under-par 68.

The Odessa College transfer rattled off nine wins during his two-year junior college career and is in his best position yet to capture his first as a Red Raider with 36 holes to play.

Meanwhile, junior Tim Wiedemeyer and sophomore Connor Graham also sit in the top-10 with Bresnu, just two shots off their teammates' pace.

Wiedemeyer and Graham both contributed under-par rounds to push the Red Raiders to a first-round lead. After a 1-over-par start through his first 14 holes, Wiedemeyer finished strong, playing his final four holes in 2-under-par to post a 1-under-par round of 69. Graham followed suit with four birdies to three bogeys for his 69.

Round two tee times will begin at 8 a.m. CT on Saturday, while the final round is set for Sunday. Texas Tech will start its second round with Price Hill off the first tee at 9:30 a.m. CT, while Bresnu will be the last of the Red Raiders to get underway at 10:06 a.m.
