The duo were named the league’s first Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week
IRVING, Texas – 2024 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year Macy Blackburn and Preseason All-Big 12 selection Taylor Zdrojewski have been named the Big 12s Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.
The Big 12 leader in goals through two matches, Zdrojewski scored and recorded an assist in both the Red Raiders 4-0 win at San Diego State and the 4-1 win over Youngstown State.
After assisting on the Red Raiders first goal Thursday, the former 100+ goal scorer in high school buried her first goal of the 2025 season when she slotted home a far post header off a corner kick service from Blackburn.
For an encore on Sunday night, Zdrojewski recorded two more goals and an assist, factoring in three of Tech's four goals in the win over the Penguins. After assisting once again on the Red Raiders first goal of the night, Zdrojewski scored the second and fourth goals for the Red Raiders to bring her goal total over the last 24 games to 13. She has also recorded seven assists in that span.
The honor is Zdrojewski's second career Big 12 Player of the week nod.
Tech's second Big 12 weekly award winner, Blackburn, continues to etch her name in both the Red Raiders and Big 12 record books as the defender with her three-assist performance against San Diego State moved in solo sixth place on the Big 12s all-time assist list recording her 36th career assist.
The award for Blackburn is the fourth of her career and continues a massive month of August that has seen the defender be named a two-time Preseason All-American, the No. 3 overall player (best defender) in college soccer and to the Mac Hermann Award Watch List.
Texas Tech's multiple Big 12 weekly awards marks the fourth straight-season that Tech has had multiple weekly honors in a single week and are the 19th and 20th weekly award by a Red Raider since the start of the 2023 season.
That's eight more weekly selections than Oklahoma State (12) who is second amongst the schools in the league.
Checking in at No. 18 in both the United Soccer Coaches poll and the TopDrawer Soccer poll, Texas Tech Soccer hits the road for a two-match road swing at RV Santa Clara and San Francisco. First touch from NorCal is set for 9:30 p.m. on Thursday.
