The defender was also selected as the third-best player in the country
LUBBOCK, Texas – As she enters her fifth and final season, defender Macy Blackburn has been tabbed a First Team Preseason All-American and was named the No. 3 player in all of college soccer by TopDrawerSoccer, Tuesday.
A native of Keller and the all-time assist leader in program history, Blackburn enters the 2025 season having played in 56 matches. Blackburn has started all but one of those matches, her first game back from a 2023 season-ending injury last season at Utah State.
Blackburn was named the best defender in the country by virtue of her No. 3 ranking as she trailed just striker Kate Faase (UNC) and Jordynn Dudley of Florida State.
The 2025 Big 12 Defender of the Year, Blackburn has scored five times in her career and has tallied 33 total assists.
Also named to the 2025 Big 12 Preseason All-Conference team, Blackburn was a First Team All-American in 2024 after being named a Third Team All-American in 2023. A semifinalist for the 2024 Mac Hermann Award, Blackburn closed the 2024 season with four assists in the Red Raiders final five matches and eight assists in their last nine contests.
Overall, the Red Raiders are now 14-1-1 the last two seasons when Blackburn records at least one assist and are 22-1-2 in the 25 career matches when she tallies an assist.
The Blackburn announcement comes on the heels of TopDrawer's first preseason poll that saw Texas Tech ranked No. 19. The Red Raiders open the 2025 season on Thursday night at San Diego State. First touch is set for 9 p.m. (CT)/7 p.m. (PT). Â
