Red Raiders ranked No. 23 in AP preseason poll
August 11, 2025 | Football
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech will enter week one ranked in both major polls, as it was revealed as the No. 23 team in the preseason Associated Press rankings. The Red Raiders were slotted No. 24 in the US LBM Coaches Poll last Monday.
Texas Tech last appeared in the AP Top 25 in 2018, when it was ranked No. 24 on Sept. 23 after defeating Oklahoma State, 41-17, and moving to a 3-1 record. The last time the Red Raiders appeared in both the AP and Coaches' Poll concurrently was in the Nov. 23, 2013 edition of the rankings, while the last time the Red Raiders appeared in both preseason polls was prior to its historic 2008 season.
Being ranked in both polls entering 2025 does not come to much surprise for many, for a talented team tabbed by some with the No. 1 transfer portal class, coupled with five starters on offense returning and seven returning on defense, that includes senior quarterback Behren Morton and Big 12 Preseason Defensive Player of the Year Jacob Rodriguez.
The 2025 season kicks off on Aug. 30 at 6:30 p.m. versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Single-game tickets remain on sale for the home opener, which includes the Red Raider 2-Pack (choose two games between UAPB, Kent State, and Oregon State), starting at $60.
