
Team USA earns silver at FISU World University Games

ESSEN, Germany – Team USA battled the defending champions of China, but fell short by an 81-69 score on Friday night at Grugahalle Arena to earn a silver medal at the 2025 FISU World University Games.
Team USA was led in points by DeYona Gaston with 21 on 9-for-12 shooting (.750) with eight rebounds. Sidney Love posted double figures with 15 points and 50 percent shooting from the field (5-for-10). Love led the way in assists with three.
Jalynn Bristow almost recorded another double-double performance at the games with seven points and a team-best 10 rebounds. She led Team USA with two blocks and tallied two assists. Denae Fritz put up another double-digit game with 10 points and totaled a team-best two 3-pointers on four attempts. Team USA shot 25-for-47 from the field (.439) and 6-for-14 (.429) from behind the arc.
Team USA and China went back and forth in the first two quarters, with the Americans jumping out to a 19-13 lead in the first. Both teams were tied at 42-42 at the end of the first half, before China pulled away in the third quarter and maintained its lead through the end of the game. Team USA has now won back-to-back silver medals as Mississippi State's women's basketball team earned a runner-up finish in the 2019 FISU World University Games.
