
Team USA advances to semifinals

ESSEN, Germany – Jalynn Bristow led the team in scoring with 20 points as Team USA took down Finland, 77-62, on Tuesday evening at Grugahalle Arena to advance to the semifinals of the World University Games. Team USA beat a Finland team who won all three of its games in group play and held a score differential against its opponents by +155 (101-40; 66-54; 117-35).
Bristow had another huge performance for the Americans as she totaled 20 points on 7-for-15 shooting from the field (.466) and 3-for-7 (.429) from beyond the arc. In addition, she recorded seven rebounds, two steals and tied for the team lead in assists with four. DeYona Gaston put up a double-double in the game with 17 points and a team-best 12 boards. Gaston shot 53.8 percent from the field (7-for-13) and had two blocks.
Adlee Blacklock had a double-figure outing with 11 points with four rebounds and a team-high tying four assists. Jada Malone also totaled double digits with 11 points on 3-for-5 shooting (.600) while tallying six rebounds. Denae Fritz led the team with three steals and added nine points, five rebounds, two assists and two blocks against Finland. Team USA shot 42.1 percent from the field (27-for-64) and outrebounded Finland 49 to 29.
Team USA will face Hungary in the semifinals tomorrow at 1 p.m. CT/8 p.m. CEST. Hungary is 4-0 in the tournament so far, winning every game in group play and defeating Portugal, 77-51, in the quarterfinals earlier today.
