Poland defeats Team USA to close out group play

ESSEN, Germany – Poland overtook Team USA in the final game of group play, 77-71, on Sunday afternoon at Grugahalle Arena. Team USA will finish 2-1 and as a two-seed in its group behind Poland who went 3-0.
With its two wins, Team USA advances to the quarterfinals of the top eight teams left in the women's basketball tournament. The team will have a day off before playing Finland at 1 p.m. CT/8 p.m. CEST on July 22 in Grugahalle Arena. Finland picked up three wins in its group against Argentina (101-40), Czechia (66-54) and India (117-35).
The other teams advancing to the quarterfinals along with Team USA (2-1) and Finland (3-0) are Hungary (3-0), Portugal (2-1), Czechia (2-1), Poland (3-0), Japan (2-1) and the People's Republic of China (3-0). The top eight teams will play for a chance to medal.
