LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech's Klara Hurtova wrapped up her first career NCAA Regional tournament on Tuesday, carding a 9-over-par 81. The final round led the sophomore to a tie for 62nd place as she ended the tournament 31-over-par following three rounds at the Rawls Course.
Hurtova waited until 12:50 p.m. to tee off on Tuesday, following a one-hour delay to the final round due to course conditions. The course took upwards of two inches of rain overnight, but skies cleared by Noon for the final round, and the West Texas winds died down in the afternoon as well, allowing Hurtova to shoot her best round of the tournament following a pair of 83s to open it.
The final round started with three straight pars for Hurtova, after her first swing of the day was a green in regulation into the difficult par-3 No. 10. After a solid start, the back nine battled back as she dropped five strokes in the next five holes, making three bogeys and a double on the par-5 17th. She bounced back to close out her first nine holes of the day with a birdie on No. 18, finishing 4-over-par (40) on the back nine.
On the front nine, Hurtova carded one birdie, three pars, four bogeys, and one double bogey, finishing the last nine holes of the regional at 5-over-par (41).
The wet morning in Lubbock pushed back the first groups' start times from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Once the sun broke for the first time since the practice round, the field took advantage of the opportunity and landed a scoring average of 72.68 after rounds one (77.11) and two (76.52) challenged the Lubbock Regional field mightily.
The five advancing teams out of the Lubbock Regional included Wake Forest (-2), Texas (+2), Iowa State (+10), Tennessee (+22) and Purdue (+25). Both Purdue (+25) and Texas A&M (+25) were tied after 54 holes for the fifth and final spot and entered into a playoff to determine the final team to advance to the national championships. The two teams played a 55th hole using No. 9 at the Rawls Course. Purdue (-2) defeated Texas A&M (E) as its collective five scores bested the Aggies' five.
The advancing individual was Lousiane Gauthier from Florida Gulf Coast (E), while the tournament Medalist was Carolina Chacarra of Wake Forest (-7).
Tuesday's final round marks the end of the 2024-25 campaign for the Red Raiders as Hurtova caps her sophomore season with her first career NCAA postseason appearance.
