The men wrapped up their two days of competition Friday night
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas Tech men's track and field team completed day three of the NCAA West First Round Championships Friday evening at E.B. Cushing Stadium.

Oscar Rodriguez was the first Red Raider to compete Friday and first to punch his ticket. Rodriguez threw a PB 59.62m (195-7) as he will attend the national meet for the first time in his career.
In the individual sprints, a combined five tickets were punched including two in the 400m and two in the 400m hurdles. In the 400m Desean Boyce (45.54) and Shaemar Uter (45.61) each ran in the same heat going 1-2 as they grabbed two of the top-3 automatic qualifiers. Oskar Edlund (49.44) and Mario Paul ran in the same heat of the 400m hurdles as Edlund (49.44) placed second in his heat for an auto Q, while Paul ended up with the fastest non-auto Q going 49.66. Malachi Snow qualified in the 100m with a time of 10.04 (Q).
Freshman distance runner Titus Kimaru secured his trip to nationals in the steeplechase as he collected the second non-fastest auto qualifying time going 8:36.83 – No. 2 in Texas Tech history as he now owns the No. 2 and 3 times. Meanwhile, Ernest Cheruiyot, finished 12th overall in the 5k with a time of 13:34.88 (No. 4 Texas Tech) as he finished fifth in his heat, grabbing the final auto qualifying time.
The men's 4x400 team of Johnathan Crawford, Desean Boyce, Oskar Edlund and Shaemar Uter combined for a time of 3:02.37 (SB) to secure their spot at nationals. The quartet finished third in their heat, grabbing one of the three auto qualifying times. The time is No. 5 in Texas Tech history.
