Cheruiyot, Frank win Big 12 titles Thursday

Shelby Franks is the first Tech woman to win the event
LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Texas Tech track and field team completed day one of the 2025 Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championships Thursday evening at Rock Chalk Park.

Shelby Frank's first throw was all she needed to win the title in the women's hammer throw. The North Dakota native heaved it 70.37m (230-10) for a new PB and a new meet record – previously 60.02m (226-5) back in 2012. The throw puts Frank No. 3 in the NCAA and she becomes the first Tech woman to win the event at the conference meet.
Ernest Cheruiyot won the men's 10k throwing down a time of 29:37.64 as he ran a blistering 54.7 on the final lap to secure the win. He is the third Red Raider to win the Big 12 10k and first since Kennedy Kithuka in. 2014.
On the men's side, Konner Wood placed third with a mark of 66.37m (217-9). Frank and Wood scored the first points for their respective teams. In the 200m, three Red Raiders secured final lanes for Saturday, led by Jonathan Crawford with a new PB of 20.55 (1.1w). Antoine Andrews won his heat with a PB of 20.59 (0.3w).
The men's 400m hurdles saw three Red Raiders advance to the final Saturday led by Oskar Edlund at 50.11 in third. Mario Paul (50.19) and DeVontae Ford (50.94) finished fourth and eighth. Vanessa Balde paced the women's side coming in sixth at 57.61 for a spot Saturday.
