Tech wraps up the regular season tomorrow with the discus and shot put
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech track and field team completed day one of the Corky/Crofoot Shootout Thursday afternoon at the Terry and Linda Fuller Track and Field Complex.
Before the start of the 4x400 relay races, Tech recognized its 34 seniors with a ceremony on the track.
Meet Coverage
The 400m dash saw some quick races for the Red Raiders. Desean Boyce placed second with a time of 45.27 in his season opener. He moves to No. 10 all-time in Tech history, the first sprinter to crack into the outdoor top 10 since 2017. Fanny Arendt, the 800m specialist, dropped an all-time best of 52.84 to win the event.
In the 100m, Kimarlie Stewart went 10.02 into a headwind of 3.0 as he placed second behind a 10.01 time. Meanwhile, Olayinka Olajide posted a 11.15 (-1.0w) for the win.
Victoria Gorlova made her season debut in the triple jump as she bounded 13.60m (44-7 ½) for the win. The 400m hurdles saw Mario Paul dip under 50 seconds for a new PB with a time of 44.92.
The men's 5k saw Solomon Kipchoge debut with a time of 13:55.55 as Titus Kimaru, a steeplechase specialist, was behind him with a time of 13:56.13.
Shelby Frank won the women's hammer throw with a SB 66.58m (218-5).
