Tech signs Mariam Sanogo
April 28, 2025 | Women's Basketball
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech women's basketball head coach Krista Gerlich has announced the signing of Mariam Sanogo to the 2025-26 roster.
"What an exciting addition to the Lady Raider family in Mimi Sanogo! Mimi is an extremely hard worker, natural leader, and a tough post presence that adds defense and rebounding in the paint for us," Gerlich said. "Mimi runs the floor and seals at the rim with physicality and she constantly is making the toughness play… taking charges, first to the floor, defending at a high level. Her character, work ethic and team-first mentality are all intangibles that will only make us better that I instantly was attracted to! I feel sure Mimi will also bring high-level energy and intensity to our practices, especially when she goes head-to-head with her sister, Sara. We are excited to have another Sanogo!"
Sanogo, the older sister of Sarengbe Sanogo, comes to Tech after playing one season at Canisius as a junior. She also competed for a season at both Odessa College and Northwest Kansas Technical College.
While with the Golden Griffins in 2024-25, Sanogo totaled five games with 10+ points and a career high of 12 against Colgate on December 29. She recorded 15 games with five or more rebounds and added 27 steals, 21 blocks and 23 assists. Sanogo appeared in all 31 games, starting in 26, and posted a career high of eight rebounds twice in the season.
Sanogo finished first on the team in blocks and second on the team with 143 rebounds. She also ranked third with 4.6 rebounds per game and fourth with 5.6 points per game. Sanogo averaged 20.4 minutes per game and shot 44.4 percent from the field (68-for-153) in the season. In addition, she was second on the team in total steals.
Prior to playing at Canisius, Sanogo spent her sophomore season at Odessa College with the Lady Wranglers. While there, Odessa put up a 30-5 overall record and a 13-1 record in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC). Playing in 34 games and averaging 17.4 minutes per game, Sanogo would total 5.1 points per game and 4.1 rebounds per game. She shot 43.8 percent from the field (70-for-160) and went 35-for-47 at the free throw line (.745). She added 35 steals, 14 assists and 13 blocks in the 2023-24 season.
Before Odessa, Sanogo spent her freshman year (2022-23) at Northwest Kansas Technical College. While there, she appeared in 25 games and started in eight, while averaging 24.0 minutes per game. Shooting 41.3 percent from the field (97-for-235), Sanogo would add 120 rebounds, 35 steals, 22 blocks and 25 assists to her resume. She also recorded 9.1 points per game, 4.8 rebounds per game and 12 double-figure scoring games.
Sanogo will be a senior with the Lady Raiders next season.
