Lady Raiders selected for WBIT
March 16, 2025 | Women's Basketball
LUBBOCK, Texas – After making a quarterfinal run at the Big 12 Championships, the Texas Tech Lady Raiders have been selected for the Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT) announced on Sunday evening by the NCAA.
Texas Tech (17-17) is set to play Wyoming (22-11) on March 20 in Arena-Auditorium at a time TBD in the second annual WBIT competition. The last time the Lady Raiders made the postseason was in 2023 when they accepted a bid into the WNIT and made it to the Sweet 16 of the tournament. This will be the first time Tech will play in the WBIT in program history.
The Lady Raiders are 2-2 all-time against Wyoming, with the two teams last playing in 2010. Other teams in Texas Tech's side of the bracket are 1-seeded Virginia Tech and North Carolina A&T. Texas Tech is one of three Big 12 schools to make the WBIT including Arizona and Colorado.
Preliminary round WBIT games will be televised on ESPN+, while the semifinals will be on ESPNU and the finals on ESPN2.
Selection Criteria
The first four teams out of the NCAA DI women's basketball tournament — as determined by the DI women's basketball selection committee — will receive an automatic bid into the WBIT and also receive the first four seeds.
Regular season champions of DI conferences not otherwise selected for the NCAA DI women's basketball tournament will also automatically qualify (if eligible and not reclassifying institutions). The remaining field will be made up of at-large teams chosen by the WBIT selection committee.
