December 23, 2025 | Men's Basketball
LUBBOCK – Texas Tech sophomore Christian Anderson has been named one of five USBWA Oscar Robertson National Players of the Week after leading the Red Raiders to their win over then-No. 3 Duke last Saturday at Madison Square Garden. Anderson is joined on the national list by Ja'Kobi Gillespie (Tennessee), Braden Huff (Gonzaga), Paul McNeil (NC State) and Stephon Payne (Seton Hall).
Along with the USBWA national honor, Anderson was named the Big 12 Player of the Week for the second time this season on Monday and also earned Big 12 Starting Five for the third time. Anderson spearheaded a 17-point comeback for the No. 15 Red Raiders over Duke at Madison Square Garden, scoring 23 of his game-high 27 points in the second half and finishing the game shooting 5-for-9 on 3-pointers. He had provided 14 points and six assists earlier in the week in a win over Northern Colorado. For the week, Anderson averaged 20.5 points, 5.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game and also secured Big 12 Starting Five honors.
For the 2025-26 season, the USBWA continues its national player of the week program that has been affiliated with the Oscar Robertson Trophy since the 2009-10 season. Prior to the 2024-25 season, the USBWA had recognized just one player each week. Each Tuesday during the regular season, designated USBWA board members will select five standouts from the 31 Division I conference players of the week to be recognized. This week's selections were chosen from a list of the conferences that named a player of the week on Monday.
He is currently leading the Big 12 and is fourth nationally with 7.3 assists per game while his 19.9 points per game this season ranks sixth in the conference and 37th nationally. Anderson is shooting 40-for-92 (43.5%) on 3-pointers this season, ranking fourth in the conference with 3.3 made per game and in 3-point percentage. An Atlanta, Georgia native in his second season at Tech, Anderson leads the Red Raiders with 11 games scoring in double figures and is coming off his fifth game this season scoring 20 or more points.
Anderson and the No. 15-ranked Red Raiders return to action against Winthrop on Sunday, December 28 at United Supermarkets Arena. Tech is currently 6-0 at home this season and on a 45-game non-conference home winning streak. The Red Raiders will follow their non-conference finale by hosting Oklahoma State on January 3 in their Big 12 opener at the USA.
