October 14, 2025 | Football
DALLAS – Texas Tech sophomore running back Cameron Dickey was named the Doak Walker National Running Back of the Week on Tuesday, an honor for his 263-yard, two-touchdown performance on Saturday versus Kansas. Dickey's performance marked the most rushing yards in a single game by an FBS rusher this season and the most by a Big 12 rusher since Iowa State's Abu Sama went for 276 yards on Nov. 25, 2023, at Kansas State.Â
Dickey was also named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, and the Walter Camp National Offensive Player of the Week and the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week on Tuesday, for his performance in the seventh week of the college football season.
Dickey powered the Red Raiders' rushing offense with 263 of their 372 total rushing yards. It was the fifth-most rushing yards in a single game by a Texas Tech running back and the 28th 200-yard rushing game in program history.Â
A 71-yard burst on the opening play of the game set the stage for the rest of Saturday night, which was his longest career rush and the second-longest play from scrimmage by the Red Raiders in 2025. It was the first of five explosive rushing plays in the game for Dickey, which also included a 55-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter to put the Red Raiders up 35-17 en route to their 42-17 win.Â
His two scores matched a career-high, as Dickey posted his third two-touchdown game this season.
Dickey is the first Tech player to be honored as the Doak Walker National Running Back of the Week, dating back to the 2022 season. Dickey now joins the members of the 2025 Doak Walker Award candidates list, a group of players vying for the end-of-season award that honors the nation's most outstanding running back. Dickey's big game marked the most yards in a game since Byron Hanspard, the Doak Walker Award winner in 1996, who set the school record with 287 yards against Baylor that season. Besides Hanspard, Texas Tech also boasts Bam Morris (1993) as a Doak Walker Award winner.
Texas Tech is on the road Saturday for a key Big 12 game at Arizona State on FOX at 3 p.m. CT.
