Texas Tech’s defensive line was named the conference’s top unit for the third time already in Big 12 play
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech earned three Big 12 weekly awards Monday as running back Cameron Dickey and outside linebacker David Bailey garnered one of the league's top offensive and defensive honors, while the Red Raider defensive line was once again tabbed the conference's top unit.
Â
Texas Tech has been a regular recipient of the Big 12 weekly honors so far this season as Bailey becomes the fourth different Red Raider to be recognized on the defensive side of the ball alone. Dickey, meanwhile, is the second Red Raider to collect top offensive accolades, joining quarterback Will Hammond, who earned the award as well as Freshman of the Week honors after Texas Tech's road win at Utah.
Â
Dickey rushed for a career-high 263 yards and two touchdowns to lead Texas Tech to a 42-17 victory over Kansas, pushing the Red Raiders to 6-0 as one of 11 undefeated teams remaining in college football. The performance marked the most rushing yards in a single game by an FBS rusher this season and the most by a Big 12 rusher since Iowa State's Abu Sama went for 276 yards on Nov. 25, 2023, at Kansas State.
Â
It marked the fifth-highest single-game rushing total by a Red Raider in school history and the most since Byron Hanspard set the Texas Tech record with 287 yards against Baylor in 1996. Dickey hit the 100-yard mark for the first time in his career in the first half alone as he opened the game with a 71-yard sprint into the end zone on Texas Tech's first play. He later found the end zone again via a 55-yard scamper early in the fourth quarter that pushed the lead to 35-17 with 14:12 remaining. As a team, the Red Raiders rushed for 372 yards, their most since racking up 453 yards on the ground against Louisiana early in the 1997 season.Â
Â
Bailey shares the FBS lead with 8.5 sacks this season after combining for 3.0 sacks against Kansas, matching his career high in the process. Bailey had his hand in four of Texas Tech's single-game school record nine sacks in the victory as he combined with fellow outside linebacker Romello Height to get to Kansas quarterback Jalen Daniels twice to go along with an additional two solo sacks.
Â
Bailey was credited with 11 pressures by Pro Football Focus, giving him an impressive 44 already this season which easily leads the country. The publication awarded him a 94.8 overall grade, pushing his season grade up to 94.0 which is fourth in the country among all defensive players. Bailey also recorded a key fumble early in the first quarter, setting up Texas Tech for a five-play scoring drive to take a 15-0 lead.
Â
Bailey was one piece of a dominant Red Raider defensive line that continues to receive national attention for ability to stuff the run and get to the quarterback. The Red Raiders broke the previous Texas Tech single-game sacks record of eight that was set in a 1993 win at SMU. It marked the most sacks in a Big 12 game since Oklahoma also had nine in a 2020 victory over Kansas.
Â
Texas Tech now ranks tied for fifth in the FBS with 21.0 sacks this season, which already matches its total from a year ago. In addition, the Red Raiders are the highest-graded pass-rushing team in the country according to PFF with a 92.2 grade. Texas Tech also easily leads PFF's grading for the top defense in the FBS at 96.3 overall. The publication awarded the Red Raiders 37 total pressures in the win, paving the way for their third Defensive Line of the Week honor.

The No. 7 Red Raiders return to the road Saturday, traveling to reigning Big 12 champion Arizona State. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m. CT with coverage provided on FOX and the Texas Tech Sports Network.
