
Red Raiders complete day one of Corky Classic

Day two start Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech track and field team wrapped up day one of the Corky Classic Friday night at the Sports Performance Center.

The day got started with the women's weight throw and the debut of newcomer Shelby Frank. The transfer from Minnesota claimed first place with a toss of 21.40m (70-2 ½), putting her No. 9 all-time in Tech history.
The men's sprints were highlighted by newcomer Malachi Snow and Shawn Brown. Snow ran a 6.55 in his first round, before being a healthy scratch for the 60m hurdles finals. Meanwhile, Brown placed second in the 60m final with a closing time of 6.59. Antoine Andrews ran a 60m hurdles time of 7.52, while Snow dropped a 7.54 – both were a DNS in the final. As of tonight, those times are top-5 in the NCAA. On top of that, Andrews ties the school record, while Snow moves to second.
Naomi Krebs (60m hurdles) and Brianna Howard (60m) each secured finals lane in their respective events. In both races, Krebs went 8.17 (PB) and 8.22 before scratching the finals. Success Umukoro took the 60m final win with a time of 7.21.
Over in the men's pole vault, Sean Gribble had a tremendous season-opener. The sophomore vaulted a lifetime best height of 5.51m (18-1). As of Friday night, it's the No. 3 mark in the country.
Notables
·     Konner Wood took third in the weight throw with a mark of 20.24m (66-5)
·     Charlie Bartholomew finished seventh in the 400m with a PB 46.70
·     Olivia Cade finished sixth in the pole vault at 4.06m (13-3 ¾)
