
Cheruiyot wins the Joe Piane Invitational

Today’s cross country race was the third of Cheruiyot’s career
NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Ernest Cheruiyot won the men's 2024 Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational, while Juliet Cherubet placed second overall on the women's side Friday morning at the Burke Golf Course.
In the men's 8k, Cheruiyot sat in sixth position after the first 1k, then moved to fifth after the first mile. He slowly began to make his move into the top-3 after the 3k mark before taking the lead at the 6k mark and never surrendering it. Cheruiyot produced a final split time of 5:37.90 for a total time of 22:20.30 (PB), winning the meet by 4.4 seconds.

In only three cross country races this season – the only three of his career – Cheruiyot has finished first twice, along with one second-place outing. Overall, the men's team finished seventh in the team standings.

Over on the women's side, Cherubet paced the way with a 5k time of 16:03.50 (PB) as she finished second overall. In three races this season, Cherubet has placed first twice and now adds a silver medal to her season resume. The Tech women finished sixth in the team standings.
