
Cherubet, Kipchoge sweep Big 12 honors

Four Red Raiders have been honored by the conference this season
IRVING, Texas – Juliet Cherubet and Solomon Kipchoge were named the Big 12 Runners of the Week, sweeping the award, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
It's the first conference weekly honor for both Cherubet and Kipchoge. The duo yesterday were named the USTFCCCA National Athletes of the Week.
Tech has now has four Red Raiders overall be honored by the conference – three on the men's side and Cherubet claims the first award for the women's team.
At the women's 6k race at the Arturo Barrios this past Friday, Cherubet ran past the field of nearly 400 runners with a first place time of 18:37.0, winning by 24 seconds. In the process, she smashed the 2023 course record of 18:58.20 set by Parker Valby. In three races this season, Cherubet has posted two wins and one second place outing (Joe Piane Invite).
Meanwhile, Kipchoge – in only his second meet of the season – claimed the race by 19 seconds over teammate Ernest Cheruiyot with an 8k time of 22:01.40, setting a new course record. The Texas Tech men won the team title scoring 62 points, thanks to a 1-2-7-11-41. With only two races this season for Kipchoge, both of them have been victories.
