Tech takes over as top program in Big 12, state of Texas.
LUBBOCK, Texas – No other team has been to Omaha more in the last six seasons than Texas Tech, and the college baseball world has taken notice as the Red Raiders were ranked as the No. 9 program in the country by D1Baseball.com last week as part of its bi-annual Top 100 Program rankings.
The Red Raiders were the highest ranked team in the Big 12 Conference and in the state of Texas.
Among the criteria for the rankings includes points awarded for advancing to the regionals and postseason success over the past five years, as well as evaluations of coaching staff quality and stability, facilities, scholarship/financial aid situation, conference dynamics, momentum, and recruiting and player development proficiency.
Over the last seven seasons under the direction of head coach Tim Tadlock, Texas Tech baseball has positioned itself as a national powerhouse.
- Tech is the only school to have hosted an NCAA Regional each of the last four seasons.
- Tech is one of three schools in the nation with four trips to Omaha over the last six years.
- The Red Raiders have won at least 45 games three consecutive seasons and five of the last six years.
- Only two programs in the country can boast more wins over the last four years than Tech.
- Tech has won three of the last four Big 12 titles, including the most recent in 2019.
- Three Red Raiders have won Big 12 Player of the Year the last four years.
- Tech has sold out of season tickets for five straight seasons.
- Tech ranked in the Top 10 nationally for total attendance in 2019.
- 48 MLB Draft picks in the last seven years, including a school-record 11 in 2018.
Texas Tech climbed nine spots to crack the Top 10 after being ranked No. 18 in the 2017 rankings. In the inaugural rankings in 2015, Tech checked in as the No. 38 program in the country.
The 2020 squad will open fall team practices Tuesday before heading to Frisco, Texas, this weekend to play the Texas Futures Camp at Dr Pepper Ballpark.
