July 01, 2019 | Baseball
Dallas and Beeter earn honors from D1Baseball.com and Baseball America, respectively.
LUBBOCK, Texas – A pair of Texas Tech pitchers were named to Freshman All-America teams over the weekend as Micah Dallas was named to D1 Baseball's second team, while Clayton Beeter was tabbed to Baseball America's second team.
Â
It is the fourth consecutive year and the sixth time in seven seasons the Red Raiders have been represented with a Freshman All-American, totaling 10 honorees since 2013. Beeter and Dallas join Eric Gutierrez (2013), Jarrard Poteete (2013), Dylan Dusek (2014), Stephen Smith (2014), Steven Gingery (2016), Davis Martin (2016), Josh Jung (2017) and Gabe Holt (2018) as winners from the publication under head coach Tim Tadlock.
Â
This marks the first Freshman All-America recognition for Micah Dallas, a starting pitcher from Aubrey, Texas. Dallas carried a 7-0 record into the College World Series as Tech's Friday night starter. His 7-0 mark made him the only Power-Five freshman to rack up seven wins without a loss.
Â
Dallas finished a phenomenal freshman year at 7-2 in 13 starts and 19 overall appearances. He struck out 84 batters in 76.0 innings pitched, yielding 34 earned runs for a 4.03 ERA. He earned a spot on the Big 12 All-Freshman Team and took home Big 12 Newcomer of the Week the final week of the regular season for his seven-inning scoreless effort against TCU on May 17.
Â
For Beeter, the reliever takes home his second Freshman All-America award after earning a nod from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper in June. The relief pitcher from Colleyville, Texas, ranked third in the Big 12 with eight saves.
Â
Beeter was an All-Big 12 Second Team and All-Freshman Team performer in 2019 after redshirting the year prior. He finished the season with 40 strikeouts in 20.2 innings pitched and a 3.48 ERA.
Â
Dallas becomes the fourth Red Raider to earn All-America honors, joining Beeter, junior shortstop Josh Jung and senior first baseman Cameron Warren. As a team, Tech collected 13 All-America and Freshman All-America awards.
Â
The Red Raiders finished the year at No. 4 in several polls after making its deepest run at the College World Series and finishing among the last four teams remaining. The No. 4 final ranking matched the 2016 squad for the highest final ranking in team history.
