Men’s Tennis Refuels in Preparation for ITA Texas Regionals Hosted by TCU

The Red Raiders make their full team debut at the ITA Texas Regionals this weekend.
FORT WORTH, Texas – The Texas Tech men's tennis team will play in its fifth fall event and journeys to the ITA Texas Regionals beginning Friday at the Bayard Friedman Tennis Center on the TCU campus.
The ITA Texas Regionals mark the first time that the entire team has traveled together this fall. The Red Raiders are looking to regain momentum after a their time in Tulsa was cut short, but not before Tech's Jolan Cailleau earned two qualifying wins and Connor Curry picked up a trio of prequalifying victories.
"Since getting back from Tulsa, the guys have put in nine great days of work on the practice courts," head coach Brett Masi said. "I'm expecting some good things from our guys, and I'm hoping that when we get down there that we can see some results from the work they put in and believe in the process."
Although this will not be the first time everyone has seen the court during the fall season, Masi looks forward to having the entire lineup travel to TCU in a team debut.
"We've talked a lot about what mental approach we need to take not only as individuals but as a team," Masi said. "This is the first tournament this year that the whole team will be out there, coaches included. We are going to make it the environment that the Red Raiders enjoy being at and playing in which is a team environment."
The tournament field is highlighted by fellow Big 12 opponents in Baylor, Texas and TCU in addition to Texas A&M, UTSA, and Abilene Christian who the Red Raiders are scheduled to face in dual match competition this spring.
"These are the some of the teams that we will be facing during the spring season, and we need to get a mental advantage on them early on," Masi said. "Looking back at last season, we had players from these regional teams take it to us in the fall. That gave them a mental advantage on us heading into the spring. We need to get that early mental advantage this season."
The four-day event starts with two rounds of singles and one doubles round with the championship matches scheduled for Monday. The singles and doubles champions qualify for the ITA National Indoors from November 3-6 in Flushing Meadows, New York.
