Texas Tech Basketball redshirt senior guard, Toddrick Gotcher, has taken full advantage of his time in the classroom at Texas Tech.
Gotcher has already graduated from Texas Tech with an undergraduate degree in exercise and sport science and a masters degree in sports management. He plans to graduate with a second masters degree in sports media in 2016.
"I have been goal-oriented," Gotcher said. "I have been trying to take the next step and not settle to just get the education I thought I was going to get in four years but to strive for more, and see where I can go from that."One of Gotcher's professors, Dana Massengale, says he has worked hard to get to the point where he is now.
"Toddrick worked very hard all throughout his program," Massengale said. "I think it was harder for him than others because he had extra things going on like athletics and the other things that he does, but he always does great. He showed exemplary work throughout the whole thing."
Once Gotcher graduates with his second masters degree, he plans on pursuing a career in athletic administration to become an athletic director.
Massengale says he would be a perfect fit in an athletic administration role.
"I'm hoping after graduation he goes into athletic administration. We need more people like him, not only does Toddrick show great leadership, he has very good strong ethics and he would be great in that area."
Gotcher has spent time working with different facets of the athletic department including the marketing and compliance departments to get a full understanding of a working athletic department. He has also spent time working with the Olympic Committee in Colorado Springs.
Massengale spoke many high praises of the senior guard.
"I think he exemplifies what a student athlete should be," Massengale said.
Gotcher credits the Marsha Sharp Center for Student Success and the Red Raider Club for getting him and the other student athletes to where they are today.
"They give all the student athlete resources," Gotcher explains, "whether it is a printer or a computer, the Marsha Sharp Center is great. I'm in there every day trying to study and get the job done. I really thank Texas Tech for what they've done for me.
I wouldn't be in this position without the Red Raider Club and all they have done for me. I wouldn't even be in college. That's most of the athletes that's here today. We're just so thankful for what they have done for us. They make our dreams come true."
Gotcher has received many accolades in his time here at Texas Tech. He has been named to the Dean's List during four semesters, the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll for six semesters, the NABC Honors Court and First Team Academic All Big 12 for the 2013-2014 season. He has surpassed 500 career points in the 2014-2015 season, and was named a Big 12 Champion for Life in October of 2015.
