Red Raider Volleyball Stuffs Columbia

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Texas Tech volleyball cruised to a 3-0 win over Columbia in game one of the SFA Invitational on Friday in Nacogdoches.
The Red Raiders took set one, 25-19, claimed the second set, 25-20, and closed out the match with a 25-10 set three victory.
Junior Lauren Douglass led the way with 12 kills, recording an attack percentage of .688. She also led the team with 12.5 points. It was the third time this season she has led the team in kills.
"It's a good way to start our second weekend," head coach Don Flora said. "We will continue to compete and work at being clean in certain parts of the game."
In the first set, the Red Raiders rattled off 14 kills behind an attack percentage of .294. Douglass led the way with four kills. On the other side of the ball, senior Brianna Grant registered three blocks, while seniors Carlie Foust and Jenna Allen led the team in digs with six and five, respectively.
Tech tallied 16 kills in the second set, with Allen claiming six. The Red Raider defense shined, holding the Columbia attack to only seven kills on 53 attempts. Tech added 33 digs, 11 coming from Foust.
In each of the first two sets, the Red Raiders were 14-20 (69 percent) on sideout attempts. In set three, they were 9-11 (81 percent). A pair of 5-0 runs in the third set helped put away the Lions, with sophomore Alyssa Ybanez (4) and freshman Sarah Redding (2) contributing to the runs with their first kills of the season.
Foust finished the match with 21 of the team's 66 digs, with junior Marguerite Grubb, Allen and senior Meghan Stacy adding nine each to the team total. Grubb also notched 37 assists.
For the third time this season, the Red Raider defense held the opposing team's attack percentage to under .100. The Lions only had one set in positive figures (.103), before registering percentages of -.019 and -.059 in the second and third sets, respectively, leaving Columbia with an overall number of .008.
The 4-0 Red Raiders complete Friday's doubleheader with a match against Stephen F. Austin at 5:30 in Nacogdoches.
