LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas Tech volleyball completed a Friday doubleheader sweep thanks to 3-0 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette in game two of the Texas Tech Fall Invitational at the United Supermarkets Arena. Earlier in the day, the Red Raiders defeated Utah State, 3-0.
The Red Raiders took set one, 25-19, claimed the second set, 25-18, and won set three by a score of 25-20. The win increased Texas Tech's lead in the all-time series, 4-0.
Senior Jenna Allen led the way for the Red Raider attack with eight kills. Texas Tech filled the stat sheet with 10 different players registering at least one kill in the match.
Marguerite Grubb posted 28 assists, along with six digs and three kills. She tallied 32 assists in the first match of the day against Utah State.
"I thought Grubb was fantastic all day today," head coach Don Flora said. "She did a lot of great things. She had the best camp of anybody, so she was prepared and it showed."
Friday night's match was the first action this season for senior Meghan Stacy, sophomore Alyssa Ybanez and freshman Katy Keenan, all of whom picked up four kills each.
"It was good to see a lot of people get a chance to get some first time jitters and communication things out of the way and be able to get their first true sweat under the bright lights," Flora said.
The Red Raiders finished with seven total team blocks, all coming in the second and third set, highlighted by five from senior Brianna Grant.
"There were zero blocks after set one tonight, but then we had four in set two," Flora said. "So, I was really happy to be able to challenge them and say here's what we need to do, here's an adjustment, they're doing this, so let's get our hands here, and they were able to do that.
Being able to play the chess match and play the tactical part of the game, that's something we've always been able to do really well. That's something we pride of ourselves on and being able to match up well with people."
The Red Raiders return to action tomorrow morning at the United Supermarkets Arena, in their final match of the Texas Tech Fall Invitational, which is set to begin at 11 am, vs. Houston.
