AMES, Iowa -- Ivonne CookTaylor and Dayo Olabode each scored in double digits but Texas Tech could not find enough shots to fall in the final half to erase a 21-point deficit to Iowa State, falling 59-47 at Hilton Coliseum on Tuesday.
CookTaylor led Tech with 13 points and seven rebounds. Olabode was 5 of 7 from the floor with 11 points and seven boards off the bench.
Tech (15-13, 5-11 Big 12) lost its third consecutive game after two close losses to No. 3 Baylor and No. 25 Texas this past week. The Lady Raiders came into Tuesday's game hitting 31 of their last 60 behind the arc (51.7 percent) but made only 5 of 19 against Iowa State with two falling in the final minute.
Iowa State (17-10, 8-8) reversed its fortunes from its previous game against Tech two weeks ago. The Cyclones hit just 3 of 20 in a 71-58 loss in Lubbock on Feb. 11 but were 9 of 26 on 3-pointers (34.6 percent) in Tuesday's win.
It was a tight game for the first 10 minutes of the opening half as both teams traded baskets and turnovers until the 10:17 mark when Seanna Johnson helped ignite a 15-4 run for Iowa State. The Cyclones would outscore Tech 23-11 the remainder of the half to take a 33-21 lead into the break.
Iowa State came out of the break doing much of the same to push its lead to 17 before Tech started to chip away at the deficit with a 7-2 run to cut it to 49-36 with 7:19 to go. But the Lady Raiders could not cut it any closer, going 0-for-3 with a turnover on their next four possessions before the Cyclones hit back-to-back 3-pointers to put the game away for good.
Senior Kelsi Baker made the only trip to the line early in the first half - hitting both - and finished with six points and six rebounds. Tech's two free throw attempts were the lowest by a Tech team in the last 10 years.
The Lady Raiders return home for senior day on Saturday to take on Oklahoma State (18-8, 8-7) at 7 p.m.
