LAS VEGAS -- Behind a spectacular second half defensive effort, the Texas Tech Lady Raiders opened the South Point Shootout with a 62-48 win over Fordham, on Friday, at the Priefert Pavilion.
Both teams took a while to warm up, as Fordham led 4-2 more than three minutes into the contest, but Tech caught fire quickly. The Lady Raiders finished the opening frame on a 16-4 run and lead, 18-6, after the first quarter.
Fordham battled back with an 8-0 run to close the gap early in the second quarter. The teams exchanged buckets until Japreece Dean shook her defender and hit a step back jumper to give the Lady Raiders a 34-30 halftime lead.

With 1:30 remaining, and the same totals on the scoreboard, Dayo Olabode launched a desperation three as the shot clock expired and banked it in to slam the door on Fordham. That was one of Olabode's career-high three three-pointers. She finished with 19 points and nine rebounds.

"I thought we did a great job defending their inside game," Texas Tech head coach Candi Whitaker said. "They have really good interior players, so I was proud of the effort shown by our post players tonight. Also, I thought Dayo [Olabode]had a great game again. She has been really good over these past couple games."
Rayven Brooks was the stat sheet stuffer for the Lady Raiders, scoring eight points, pulling down six rebounds and dishing out a career-high seven assists.
"I thought Rayven Brooks had a great game," Whitaker said. "She did a great job of getting us going offensively and finding people at crucial times, when our offense didn't have a lot of tempo. She did a fantastic job tonight."
Japreece Dean was a late spark plus once again for the Lady Raiders, scoring eight of her 14 points in the second half. She also had five rebounds, three assists and a steal.
