TEXAS TECH vs. TCU POSTGAME QUOTES
JANUARY 4, 2015
Candi Whitaker
Lady Raider Head Coach
Opening Statement
"Really proud of this bunch. I thought we defended very very well. They level of energy, effort and execution on the defensive end was really what won the game for us. I'm so proud of their efforts."
On what this win means to her
"I'm just so proud for them. I'm proud for all of them but especially the returners that went through last season and how hard that was for them. I'm really proud for them."
On who is more excited - her or the team
"I think we are equally excited. We wanted to get off to a great start and we did that. We are at home and we should come out with the energy we played with. I just thought everyone was set on go. You could just tell in shoot around; the look in their eye and their preparation this week was different."
On Dayo and Kelsi's performance in the paint
"Huge. I thought Dayo started as a rebounding machine, her put backs, being very very aggressive and again rebounded very well for us. She came over and blocked some shots, bailed us out of bad situations at times, and you could see her rise up and grab a board. Kels was Kels. I feel like this was the first time she really played to her potential. She shot it well, was confident in size, had great body control, made great decisions and I thought she played really well."
On offense when TCU was in a press
"I'm glad you brought that up because we haven't been very good at that. I thought we handled it very very well. Obviously we worked a lot on it this week and we expected it knowing it was coming. Until the end, when we threw some crazy passes. We really handled it well, kept our composure and worked the basketball."
On the atmosphere in the locker after the win
"It's just exciting. It always feels good to win. I think for us, maybe being a little unknown this year, and on how well we will do in big twelve play against a big twelve opponent. I think confidence grows from success and doing well. So they are excited and they should be."
Kelsi Baker
Senior Forward
On what lead to so much success and scoring
"I mean I think, one of the things that really helped us was our preparation. We prepared knowing that this was going to be one of the biggest games we were going to play. Every big twelve game is going to be one of the biggest games we are going to play, and that's how we are going to play them. Our teammates found us in prime position and I think it's important that we highlight that. If we don't get in good position we don't finish the bucket."
On what this win means to you
"Ah. Man. It is probably one of the best big twelve wins in my carrier and I've been here for along time. I'm excited for the things that are ahead of this team and the things Coach Whitaker has ahead of her. She prepared us and our coaching staff prepared us unlike anything I've ever been apart of. So we are excited."
On if the ghosts of last season is gone
"Yeah they were dead at the beginning of the season. It's a different team. Eight new players and they (ghosts) were gone at the beginning of the year. I think this win shows a lot of people that we are a completely different team and that we are forced to be reckoned with."
Dayo Olabode
Freshman Wing
On what it feels like to get the first Big 12 win
"It feels great. The competition, the level of energy, intensity and everything is just great. I'm really happy and excited. Striving for more wins so we can have better feelings like this every conference game. It feels good."
