LUBBOCK, Texas -- Amber Battle scored 19 points but could not get a last-second 3-pointer to drop as Texas Tech fell at home to Kansas State, 41-38 on Saturday at United Supermarkets Arena.
Ivonne CookTaylor added seven points, eight rebounds and five steals off the bench along with seven points from Rayven Brooks.
CookTaylor provided a defensive spark and had half of Tech's 10 steals as it forced 19 turnovers and got a much-needed stop on K-State's last possession as Tech set up the final play in the half-court with 11 seconds to go. Battle dribbled inward toward the basket looking for a different look then had to back out and shoot a fade-away three that missed as K-State's Brianna Craig came down with the rebound as the clock hit zero.
Tech's 38 points was its second-lowest point total this season.
Tech (13-8, 3-6 Big 12) went back and forth with the Wildcats for most of the second half as neither team scored more than 20 points or shot more than 24 percent in the final 20 minutes. Battle's 3-pointer gave Tech a 35-34 with 11:51 to go but it would be the final Tech lead the rest of the afternoon.
The Lady Raiders finished the game 1-for-15 from the field and 0-for-9 behind the arc while giving up three turnovers.
Kansas State (13-7, 3-6) relied heavily on 6-5 forward Breanna Lewis inside to keep Tech off the offensive glass. Lewis finished with 11 rebounds and six points while Ashia Woods led the Wildcats with 11 points and seven rebounds.
Tech will head out for the first of two road games next week when it takes on Kansas (12-9, 3-5) at 7 p.m., Wednesday at Allen Fieldhouse.
