No. 16 Tech Finishes Second At William Tucker Intercollegiate

No. 16 Texas Tech moved up one spot in today's final round of the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate in Albuquerque and finished second overall behind tournament host New Mexico. Freshman Pereira Guillermo tied for second place overall with senior Clement Sordet.

No. 16 Texas Tech moved up one spot in today's final round of the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate in Albuquerque and finished second overall behind tournament host New Mexico.
Clement Sordet and Guillermo Pereira led the Red Raiders as the pair went neck and neck for two days and ended up in a two-way tie for second. The pair shot an even par 72 in todays final round and finished at 6-under, 210. New Mexico's Gavin Green took home medalist honors as he carded a 9-under, 207.
"I was very pleased with the overall performance," Head Coach Greg Sands said. "It was nice to have Clement and Guillermo have a chance to win individually. They played very solid and both are comfortable being in contention. I expect both of them to win soon."
On a day when scoring was high, the Red Raiders got strong play from senior Esteban Restrepo as he moved up 10 spots on the individual leaderboard to help Tech move into second place as a team. His 1-over par, 73 moved him from 24th place through two rounds up to 14th.
Sophomore Hannes Ronneblad rounded out the scorecard for Texas Tech as he tied for 33rd at 8-over, 224.
Texas Tech managed to edge out four teams in the Top 25, including No. 11 UNLV and No. 15 TCU. The Red Raiders return to action on Oct. 19, in Orlando at the annual Tavistock Collegiate Invitational.
Highlights
- As a team the Red Raiders scored 19 under on par 5 holes, giving the Red Raiders the third-lowest par 5 scoring as a team.
- As a team the Red Raiders had 42 birdies over the 54-hole course. Pereira had 12 birdies over 54 holes, giving him the 4th most birdies by any player in the tournament.
- As a team the Red Raiders had 167 pars over the 54-hole course, giving the Red Raiders the 2nd most pars by any team in the tournament. Pereira and Ronneblad led the Red Raiders both with 36 pars.
- Sordet led the field with three eagles for the tournament, one more than any other player in the field.
- Sordet eagled the first hole in rounds two and three of the tournament.
- Sordet had the second-lowest par 4 scoring average for the tournament at 3.93. Pereira had the third-lowest par 4 scoring average for the tournament at 3.97.
- Sordet had the third-lowest par 5 scoring average for the tournament at 4.50.
- Sordet and Pereira ended the tournament tied for 2nd scoring -6 over the 54-hole course.
- The Red Raiders ended the tournament in 2nd place, scoring E (even) over the 54-hole course.
- Pereira birdied the first hole in all three rounds of the tournament.
- Three Red Raiders birdied the 18th hole in round three of the tournament (Ronneblad, Restrepo, Pereira).
- Every Red Raider birdied the 18th hole at least once over the course of the 54-hole tournament.
