
Roberts Wins Gold at U.S. Championships

Former Red Raider All-American Gil Roberts won gold Saturday in the 400-meters at the U.S. Track and Field Championships with a career-best time of 44.53 seconds.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Former Red Raider All-American Gil Roberts won gold Saturday evening at the U.S. Track and Field Championships finishing first overall in the BMW USA Men's 400-meter dash.
Roberts, a two-time All-American in the event during his Texas Tech career, crossed the finish line at Hornet Stadium in 44.53 seconds. The time ties for the fifth-fastest in the world for the 2014 outdoor season and a new career-best for Roberts.
The decorated sprinter has now won two U.S. Championships in his career as he also won gold in the 400-meter dash at the 2012 U.S. Indoor Championships in Albuquerque.He went on to win gold that season as the anchor of the Team USA 4x400 relay team.
The Oklahoma City native is the second Texas Tech product to win a U.S. Track and Field Championship this year as Omo Osaghae won gold in the men's 60-meter hurdles indoors in February.
