LUBBOCK, Texas -- It's clear that Texas Tech head coach Candi Whitaker might be the most excited person in Lubbock on Wednesday.
She gets the opportunity for her team to start off a seven-game homestand with a bang at 11 a.m. on Wednesday when All-Big 12 guard Amber Battle returns to the lineup as Tech (4-2) takes on Abilene Christian (5-1) at United Supermarkets Arena.
The Lady Raiders return home for the first time in more than a week after falling to Purdue and NC State at the Junkanoo Jam in the Bahamas.
Battle returns to the court after serving a six-game suspension for her part in an altercation on campus this past summer.
She was the leading scorer, rebounder and defensive player last season for the Lady Raiders and became the first player in 10 years to score 30 or more points in a game with 32 against Kansas State on Jan. 14.
Tech is looking to avenge last year's home loss to ACU and keep its home unbeaten streak alive. The Lady Raiders have won all four contests at the USA this season.
ACU won the Pizza Lights Classic in Kansas City this past week and have won three consecutive games since its last loss vs. UTSA.
The game will also feature a much younger crowd thanks to the earlier tip off time. More than 3,500 area elementary kids are coming to the game as part of the first annual Lady Raider Education Day. A special sack lunch will be provided to all kids in attenance with their participating schools.
The game is also free to all fans who wish to come.
