Texas Tech placed three players on the 2014 All-Big 12 Football Teams
Dec. 10, 2014
LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech junior offensive lineman Le'Raven Clark (Rockdale, Texas) was named to the All-Big 12 Conference first team in a vote by the league coaches while junior running back DeAndre Washington (Missouri City, Texas) and junior linebacker Pete Robertson (Longview, Texas) were named to the All-Big 12 second team, league officials announced this morning.
Clark, who was an All-Big 12 second team selection as a sophomore in 2013, has started 38 straight games the last three years while anchoring the Red Raider offensive line. Clark and the Red Raider offensive line led the way this season for Tech's first 1,000-yard rusher since 1998. The Red Raiders tallied 1,836 rushing yards (5.2 avg.) - their most since 1998 (2,219) - and allowed only 13 sacks in 12 games.
Yesterday, Clark was named to the Associated Press All-Big 12 first team. In addition, in 2012, Clark became Tech's first-ever offensive lineman to earn Freshman All-America honors.
Washington is Tech's first running back to earn All-Big 12 since 2008 (Shannon Woods - 2nd Team) while becoming the Red Raiders first 1,000-yard rusher since 1998 (Ricky Williams). He finished third in the Big 12 with 1,103 yards on 188 carries (5.9 avg.) with two rushing touchdowns while averaging 91.9 rushing yards per game.
Washington is the first Red Raider to rush for over 1,000 yards during the "Air Raid" era while his 1,103 yards rank ninth in school history. He ranked second in the league with four 100-yard rushing performances - including a career-high 186 yards at Iowa State, the most rushing yards by a Red Raider since 1999 (Shaud Williams).
Robertson, an All-Big 12 honorable mention pick a year ago, led the Big 12 with 12 sacks - a total that ranks sixth in the NCAA. Robertson led the Red Raiders with 81 tackles (47 solo) along with 14.5 tackles for loss, seven quarterback hurries, three pass breakups, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
Robertson's 12 sacks are tied for fourth in school history for a single season while he enters his senior season next year ranked ninth in Tech history with 16 career sacks.
Tech had nine individuals who received All-Big 12 honorable mention, including senior linebacker Sam Eguavoen, junior defensive back J.J. Gaines, junior receiver Jakeem Grant, junior offensive lineman Jared Kaster, freshman quarterback Patrick Mahomes (Offensive Freshman of the Year - HM), senior receiver Bradley Marquez, junior offensive lineman Alfredo Morales, sophomore defensive back Justis Nelson and junior punter Taylor Symmank.
