Texas Tech volleyball had nine athletes selected to the Academic All-Big 12 team on Tuesday.
IRVING, Texas -- The Texas Tech volleyball team landed a total of nine athletes on the 2014 Academic All-Big 12 Volleyball teams, the conference office announced today.
Out of the three athletes in the entire conference who were selected with 4.0 GPAs, two were Red Raiders--Marguerite Grubb and Nicole Hragyil.
It is the third-straight first-team selection for Hragyil, who was also honored while having a 4.0 GPA in 2013.
Overall, Grubb and Hragyil were joined on the first team by Sam Podraza, Lauren Douglass, Breeann David, Rachel Brummitt and Jenna Allen.
Mikia Mills and Carlie Foust were named to the second team, giving Tech nine honorees overall, good enough for second-most in the conference.
"This is a continued sign of the type of committed athletes we want in this program," Texas Tech head coach Don Flora said. "We are proud of their hard work in so many phases, and for being great Red Raiders."
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must have maintained a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation were also eligible.
The Red Raiders will be in action Wednesday night in Fort Worth against TCU, with first serve set for 7 p.m.
