Postmatch Notes
September 07, 2012 | Women's Volleyball
Today's meeting was the first-ever match between Texas Tech and Towson.
The loss ended an eight-match winning streak for the Red Raiders which was previously the program's longest to start a season since 2003.
The Red Raiders had not previously been swept in a non-conference match since falling to Illinois State on Sept. 11, 2010, during the Colorado State Tournament.
Texas Tech had also not lost a non-conference match since falling at San Jose State on Nov. 16 last year. That match was the final non-conference contest of the 2011 season.
The Red Raiders finished without a player in double digits in kills or digs for the first time all season as Emily Ehrle led with nine kills and Rachel Brummitt recorded a team-high seven digs.
Head coach Don Flora turned to a young lineup once again to start the match as junior Aubree Piper, sophomores Breeann David and Rachel Brummitt, and freshmen Lydia McKay, Emily Ruetter, Meghan Stacy, and Emily Write were all in the opening rotation. That group consists of five newcomers and just one upperclassmen.
The Red Raiders allowed the Tigers to hit .292 in the match, the highest hitting percentage for a Tech opponent this season. It also marked the first time Tech had recorded a lower hitting percentage this season as well.
HEAD COACH Don Flora
The loss drops head coach Don Flora to 292-77 a collegiate head coach and 23-18 while at Texas Tech.
The loss marked the first at a neutral site for the Red Raiders under Flora as Tech was previously 9-0 in just over a season.
The loss dropped the Red Raiders to 22-3 all-time in non-conference matches under Flora and 18-2 in tournament settings.
Emily Ehrle
Ehrle led the Red Raiders in kills for the fourth time this season which ties Breeann David for the team high.
Ehrle had not led the team in kills since recording 10 against Texas-Pan American last weekend in the Lonestar Showdown opener. David led the squad in each of the three matches since then.
Rachel Brummitt
Brummitt was kept out of double digits in digs for the first time this season as the sophomore recorded just seven in the match.
She also posted Tech's only ace in the match, giving her a team-high 15 now on the year.
