With the win, Texas Tech is now 2-0 all-time against Northwestern State as the Red Raiders also defeated the Lady Demons during last season's Texas Tech Invitational.
The win improved Texas Tech to 21-2 under head coach Don Flora in non-conference matches and 18-1 when playing in a tournament setting.
The tournament title was already the fifth for the Red Raiders under Don Flora. It was also the 55th all-time tournament title for Tech in school history.
The Red Raiders have also defended their home court well under Flora as Tech is 6-0 in non-conference matches during his two seasons.
With the win, Flora is now 291-76 as a collegiate head coach 22-17 while at Texas Tech.
For the second-straight match Don Flora went a more-experienced starting lineup, using seniors Miara Cave and Tory Vaughan along with junior Aubree Piper, sophomores Breeann David, Mikia Mills, and Rachel Brummitt and freshman Emily Ruetter. It was the second-straight match only two newcomers were in the starting rotation.
Breeann David's 14 kills and .375 hitting percentage both marked season highs. She also totaled 10 digs for her second career double-double. It was her first double-double since totaling 15 kills and 12 digs on Sept. 26 last year at New Mexico.
In addition to her work offensively, David also recorded a career-high seven blocks, barely breaking her previous mark of six that was most recently matched Friday evening against San Jose State.
Rachel Brummitt found the 20-dig mark for the third time this season as the sophomore finished with 21 in the match. Brummitt had previously totaled 27 the night before against San Jose State to set the Tech single-match record for most digs in a three-set match.
Emily Wright found double digits in digs for the third time this season as she posted 12 against Boston College and 10 against both San Jose State and Northwestern State.
The Red Raiders' .283 hitting percentage was their second-highest of the season, behind the .363 mark set Aug. 24 against Binghamton.
