The Red Raiders had not overcome a 2-1 deficit previously since defeating Colorado in five sets on Nov. 20 last year in Boulder. Tech is 4-1 when going to five sets over the last two seasons.
With the win, the Red Raiders are now 11-1 away from Lubbock this year, including a 5-1 record in true road contests. It marked Tech's fifth-straight victory at the opposing team's venue.
The win was also Tech's 14th-straight non-conference victory, the school's longest streak since winning 22-straight over the course of the 1996-97 seasons.
The match marked the first time former Tech head coach Jeff Nelson had faced one of his previous schools. The current New Mexico head coach compiled a 166-96 record during his eight seasons on the Red Raider bench from 1995-02.
Tech's 37 block assists snapped a 19-year-old school record of 36 set against Utah State on Sept. 10, 1982.
Dravon Rangel's 14 block assists passed the previous school record of 11 that has been notched six times in program history, most recently by current Tech director of operations, Amy Gandy, on Nov. 15, 2006 against Iowa State.
Rangel's 14 total blocks matched Susan Kelly for the second-most blocks in school history. Kelly posted 14 blocks in only four sets on Sept. 4, 1987 against New Mexico as well. Erica Ruegg owns the school record for most blocks in a match as she recorded 16 against UT-Arlington on Sept. 11, 1991.
Amanda Dowdy's 26 kills marked a new season-high, surpassing the 19 she recorded against TCU in the season opener. It marked her most kills since totaling 34 in five sets at Colorado on Nov. 20 of last year.
Dowdy also notched her eighth-straight double-double with 11 digs in the match. The double-double was Dowdy's 13th of the season and 26th for her career.
Breeann David's 15 kills was one more than her previous season high of 14 set against UConn. Her .387 hitting percentage marked her highest since totaling a .500 average against the Huskies. David added her first career double-double thanks to a season-high 12 digs.
With her 49 assists, setter Karlyn Meyers is now seven shy of tying Mary Loescher (1985-87) for seventh on the school's career chart. Meyers has now dished 2,256 assists over her four seasons.
Tory Vaughan broke the 20-dig mark for the second time in her career as she finished one dig shy of her career high set earlier this season against Morehead State.
Aubree Piper missed the match after experiencing back stiffness prior to pregame warm-ups. It marked the first match she has missed all season.
