The loss was Texas Tech's 12th-straight to Oklahoma as the Red Raiders have not defeated the Sooners since recording a 3-0 sweep on Sept. 21, 2005 in Lubbock. Tech still holds a 34-25 all-time advantage in the series.
The close loss prevented Tech from earning its first victory over a ranked opponent since defeating 20th-ranked Kansas State in five sets on Nov. 20, 2004.
The match marked the second time Tech had gone five sets this week as the Red Raiders edged New Mexico, 3-2, on Monday night.
The Red Raiders are now 3-2 on the year when going at least four sets in a match. Tech's other loss came in its season opener to TCU which ended in four sets.
Tech came into the match a perfect 13-0 when winning the opening set. The last time Tech lost a match after winning the opening frame was against Missouri on Nov. 10 of last year in Columbia. The Red Raiders fell, 3-1, that night.
Oklahoma maintained a 10-9 block advantage in the match, marking only the third time Tech had trailed in the category this year. The Red Raiders are 1-2 in those matches.
The Sooners finished the match with a .218 hitting percentage which was only the third time this year a Tech opponent had finished with at least a .200 average.
The Red Raiders, meanwhile, finished with a .177 hitting percentage, marking the fourth time this year Tech had failed to reach the .200 mark. Tech is 1-3 in those matches.
Amanda Dowdy recorded her ninth-straight double as the senior finished with a team-high 18 kills and 28 digs. The double-double was Dowdy's 14th of the season and 27th of her career.
Dowdy's 28 digs marked a new career high, surpassing her previous mark of 23 set earlier this year against Morehead State.
Karlyn Meyers moved into sole possession of seventh on the school's career assists chart, passing Mary Loescher's total of 2,319 during the 1985-87 seasons. Meyers finished with 49 assists in the match, moving her career total to 2,361.
In addition to moving up the record book, Meyers also posted her third double-double of the year as she added 11 digs. The double-double was the eighth of her career.
Tory Vaughan chipped in a career-high 26 digs for the Red Raiders, breaking her previous mark of 21 set against Morehead State in the finale of the Texas Tech Invitational. It was the second-straight match that Vaughan had at least 20 digs.
