LINCOLN, Neb. - No. 3 Nebraska used a .390 hitting percentage and slowed a hard-hitting Texas Tech lineup en route to a 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-13) sweep over the Red Raiders on Wednesday night in front of a capacity crowd of 4,088 fans at the Nebraska Coliseum.
Playing in front of its largest opposing crowd all season, Tech (3-16; 1-9) hung with the Huskers (18-1; 10-0) in the beginning stages of each set, but Nebraska's powerful offense eventually took control of the match. With numerous saves from its back row, the Husker defense held the Tech offense to a .108 hitting percentage in the match.
"We knew Nebraska was obviously a very good team, and they proved why tonight," Tech head coach Trish Knight said. "I didn't think we played that badly, but Nebraska just made dig after dig and good teams that play deep into the postseason do that. We are going to try to regroup and get ready for Oklahoma on Saturday."
Despite the score, the Red Raiders were able to force multiple long rallies and a few difficult digs for the Huskers.
Amanda Dowdy led all Tech players with 11 kills while Miara Cave added seven of her own. Karlyn Meyers posted 26 assists in the match, and on the back row Jackie Vincent and Tory Vaughan added 10 and seven digs respectively.
The Husker block was an obstacle for the Red Raiders as Nebraska recorded 15 total blocks in the match compared to Tech's eight. On top of having a powerful block, the Huskers also gave Tech troubles with its serve, totaling six aces in the match while forcing six Tech receiving errors.
Nebraska's top-three attackers were all in double-figures and posted above a .400 hitting percentage as Hannah Werth and Brooke Delano both finished with 11 kills and Lindsey Licht added 10 of her own. Delano recorded a .533 hitting percentage, while Werth also added a double-double with 12 digs. Kayla Banwarth
Nebraska's 4,088 fans in attendance extended the Huskers' home sellout streak to 142-straight matches, the longest streak in all of NCAA women's athletics.
The Red Raiders return to the United Spirit Arena on Saturday for a 1 p.m. match against the Oklahoma Sooners. The match will be Tech's inaugural "Dig for the Cure" match as the Red Raiders will be wearing pink uniforms that will be auctioned following the match. Fans dressed in pink will receive a $1 ticket to the match.
