Lady Raiders Roll to Panorama Farms Invitational Title

LUBBOCK, Texas - The No. 4 Texas Tech Lady Raider cross country team, for the fourth-straight race, placed five runners in the top 10 to roll to a victory at the Panorama Farms Invitational held in Charlottesville, Va.
"Excellent race for both the men and women considering it was a difficult course," head coach Jon Murray said after the race. "The women ran great up front with several personal-best times ran throughout the team. Great results on both sides and I think it shows where we are and that we are coming around at the right time of year."
The Lady Raiders scored a total of 20 points and beat No. 20 Virginia by 35 points. The women's team was led by Rose Tanui and Caroline Jepleting. The duo finished in first and second with times of 20:21.87 and 20:26.05, respectively. It is the third victory for Tanui in four races.
The Karunde twin sisters battled with each other all the way to the finish line. Winrose Karunde edged her sister Caroline Karunde with a time of 20:48.21 to 20:48.77. W. Karunde placed fourth and C. Karunde was fifth.
Purity Biwott was the fifth Lady Raider in the top 10. She ran a 21:21.12 to place eighth overall. Michelle Guzman finished in 14th with a time of 22:04.54.
The Red Raiders were fourth as a team with a total of 116 points. Duke men won with 31 points and are ranked 10th in the nation.
Gilbert Limo was the top runner as he crossed the line in fourth place with a time of 24:12.20. It is the fourth-straight race he has finished in the top five.
Silas Kemboi ran a 24:29.05 to place in 12th place. The third Red Raider to finish was Nathan Milles. He covered the 8K course in a time of 25:41.98.
Valentino Julien stopped the clock at 25:56.86 and placed 49th overall. Reid Strong was the fifth Red Raider to finish in 56th place. Strong ran the course in 26:17.11. The next race for both teams will be the Big 12 Championships held in Stillwater, Okla., on October 30.
