LUBBOCK, Texas - Michael Crabtree and Wes Welker, two of the greatest players to wear a Texas Tech football uniform, were honored today by CNNSI.com as members of the College Football All-Decade Team.
Crabtree, a first-round draft choice by the San Francisco 49ers this past spring, made the list as one of two wide receivers alongside Larry Fitzgerald (Pitttsburgh). Crabtree was a two-time Biletnikoff Award winner as the nation's top collegiate wide receiver and was an integral part of one the most successful season in school history in 2008. His collegiate career will forever be remembered by a last second touchdown catch that lifted the Red Raiders to a 39-33 win over then No. 1 Texas. The play against the Longhorns was also recognized by CNNSI.com as one the most memorable moments of the decade.
Welker, a standout wide receiver for New England Patriots, joined the list as the punt returner after he set the NCAA record for the most career punt returns for touchdown with eight. During his Texas Tech career he totaled 1,774 career punt return yards with an average of 11.4 yards per return. As a wide receiver, he caught 265 passes for 3,131 totals yards along with 22 touchdowns.
Oklahoma led the way with four players named to the all-decade team followed by Texas Tech, Arkansas, Ohio State, Michigan and Miami, (Fla.) who each placed two players on the squad.
