LUBBOCK, Texas - Behind a 15-kill effort by Suzy Boulavsky, Oklahoma (11-4, 4-2) stayed among the Big 12 leaders in volleyball with a 3-set sweep of Texas Tech (2-11, 0-4) this afternoon in Norman, Okla. Boulavsky committed only one error in 22 attempts leading the offense for the Sooners and wound up hitting for a .636 efficiency.
For Tech, sophomores Amanda Dowdy and Karlyn Meyers teamed up in the third set for a solid effort which at least made that frame competitive. Dowdy, who moved to the middle blocker position in the third set, finished with nine kills and committed only three errors and Meyers had four kills, two block assists and dished the ball to others for 22 assists. Defensively, Tech got nine digs from freshman libero Tory Vaughan and seven from senior Jenn Goehry.
Junior middle blocker Barbara Conceicao had a strong match defensively at the net, tallying a block solo and four assists, but couldn't manage any offense as she found the floor only three times for kills and committed two errors in 14 attempts, mitigating any effectiveness she may have had.
The Sooners, meanwhile, hit for a .320 efficiency as a team and scooped up 47 digs, to Tech's 35.
Tech now faces the daunting challenge of regrouping against one of the nation's hottest teams, No. 19 Baylor (15-1, 4-1) who later this evening will face Colorado before heading to Lubbock next week for a Wednesday, Oct. 7 match at 6:30 p.m. with the Red Raiders at the United Spirit Arena.
