LUBBOCK, Texas - Juliann Faucette led all players with 22 kills (one error) in 27 attempts to pace No. 2 Texas to a 3-set win over Texas Tech in volleyball action on Pink Night at the United Spirit Arena. With the win Texas remains unbeaten atop the Big 12 at 14-0, 9-0 while Tech falls to 2-15, 0-8.
Set one was extremely competitive as both teams traded punches until kills by Faucette and Desiree Hooker, got the visitors on a roll when the score was tied at 17. That set featured 14 tie scores and eight lead changes. Texas finished set one with a 25-21 win, and the season-high 1,112 fans on hand at the arena were well into an entertaining match when the Longhorns superior size and hitting efficiency (they finished hitting .386 on the night) took over in sets two (25-16) and three (25-17).
Texas Tech was led by Amanda Dowdy's 12 kills and got five each from Miara Cave and Barbara Conceicao, but the Longhorns out-blasted the Red Raiders, 51-29, in the all-important kill statistic. A good block effort by Tech was led by Conceicao's four block assists, but Texas was effective in that area as well and got a block solo and three block assists by Jennifer Doris at the net.
Back-row play by both teams was evident, as the Longhorns' Heather Kisner (libero) and Amber Roberson each spoiled opponents' attempts with nine digs. Tech got good defensive play from all players to spread 33 digs, but was led by Jenn Goehry whose six was a team-high. For Tech, Alexxa Roberts came off the bench in the second frame to give a needed boost to the offense and responded with four kills (no errors) in 11 attempts.
Most of the fans in attendance were donning pink as the Tech volleyball team joined the nation in recognizing breast cancer awareness month with the Pink Night event.
Tech next hosts Kansas on Wednesday evening, Oct. 21, for a 6:30 p.m. match.

Post-match note: Texas Tech, through the generosity of its largely student-based fan support, was able to raise nearly $1,500 for the Susan G. Komen foundation. There was a pass-the-hat effort in the break between the second and third sets and a silent auction of the team's pink warm up jerseys post match. Those two efforts raised the money.
The Texas Tech Volleyball team and head coach Trish Knight would like to sincerely thank everyone in attendance at the match for their support and financial magnanimity for the cause.
