Lady Raiders Defeat UCF in Season Opener, 72-57

ORLANDO, Fla. - After overcoming a seven-point halftime deficit, the Texas Tech women's basketball team went on to claim a 15-point victory over UCF, 72-57, in the UCF Knights Classic tonight. Sophomore Jordan Murphree led the way with a game-high 17 points.
UCF dominated the first half as the Lady Raiders (1-0) shot just 24.1 percent from the field, hitting 7-29 shot attempts, while the Knights (0-1) were 44.8 percent - connecting on 13-29 shots. UCF also outrebounded Tech 24 to 17 in the first 20 minutes of action. The Lady Raiders largest lead of the first half was five points just five minutes into the game. The Knights held a 33-26 lead at the half, its biggest advantage of the night.
In the second half, Tech came out on a 12-4 run to take its first lead of the second half at 38-37 with 15:47 remaining in the contest. The Lady Raiders would not relinquish that lead the rest of the game. Tech's largest lead of the night of 19 points came with 37 seconds left at 72-53. The Knights held the Lady Raiders scoreless the last 1:09 of the game.
Tech got hot in the second period as it shot 52.9 percent (18-34) from the field, including 4-for-6 from three-point range for 66.7 percent.
On the night, Tech outshot UCF 39.7 percent (25-36) to 37.9 percent (22-58). Along with Murphree, the Lady Raiders had three others score in double figures - senior Erin Myrick with 16, junior Maria Moore with 14 and junior Dominic Seals with 10. Seals only had one point in the first half after going 0-4 from the field, but came on strong in the second half, hitting 4-8 shot attempts. She also finished with her first double-double as a Lady Raider with 10 rebounds. Murphree tallied five assists in the win.
Tech will face Northeastern in its second game of the UCF Knights Classic on Sun., Nov. 11, at 10 a.m. CST. The Huskies defeated Coppin State, 69-65, in the first game of the Classic.
