LUBBOCK, Texas - Three Red Raiders knocked down double-digit kills and Tech recorded 15 team blocks, but it was not enough to get by Colorado in a 3-1 (34-32, 20-30, 15-30 and 19-30) Saturday afternoon in Boulder, Colo.
Tech dropped to 7-17 and 1-14 on the year. The Buffaloes picked up their first conference win of the season to improve to 6-17, 1-14.
Senior Amy Gandy paced the Red Raiders offensively with a team-best 15 kills to go along with seven digs and a pair of blocks. Alicia Ostmeyer nailed down 12 kills to go with her match-high eight blocks. Michelle Flores also chipped in 12 kills. Brandi Hood added seven blocks on eight kills, while freshman Becca Baldwin notched a career-high six blocks. Setter Kourtney Dunnam spread the offense with a career-high 46 assists.
Game one was a tight back-and-forth battle for both squads. Neither squad managed to build more than a three-point lead for the duration of the game. The Buffs had game point at 29-28 only to see Tech fight back and win the game 34-32.
CU came back with a vengeance in game two and jumped out to an 18-10 lead. The Buffs rolled on from there to take the game 30-20 and kept its fire going out of the locker room en route to a 30-15 win in game three.
The fourth game was close early, until the Buffs rolled out a 8-0 run to take a 17-8 lead midway through. The Red Raiders could not overcome a stifling CU defense the rest of the way and fell 19-30.
Emilee Sisco led the Buffs with a match-best 27 kills, while Mallori Gibson knocked down 18 kills. Setter Kaitlyn Burkett spurred CU with 66 assists in addition to her eight kills.
Tech will look to bounce back Wednesday when it travels to Norman to take on No. 18 Oklahoma. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
