Four Tech Volleyball Players Named Academic All-Big 12

LUBBOCK, Texas - Four Texas Tech volleyball players were named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team this morning in a release by the Big 12 conference. Those Red Raiders being honored included Alicia Ostmeyer, Amy Gandy, Jenn Harrell and Emily Ziegler.
A total of 53 student-athletes were named Academic All-Big 12, with 44 garnering first-team accolades. Among those 44 were six with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Ostmeyer was one of the six.
Ostmeyer, a senior from Grinnell, Kan., is majoring in speech language hearing. She is hitting .293 on the season and is second on the team in blocks and third in total kills. Gandy, a senior from Burlington, Ontario Canada, is second on the Red Raiders in kills with 2.69 kills per game and is majoring in exercise and sport sciences.
Ziegler, a senior from Dallas, Texas (Highland Park), is second on the team in hitting and first in assists at 10.67 assists per game. She is majoring in exercise and sport sciences and is making her third-straight appearance on the first team. Sophomore Jenn Harrell, from Katy, Texas, ranks eighth in the Big 12 with a team-best 3.98 digs per game and is majoring in multidisciplinary studies.
To be eligible for first-team status, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.20 GPA while competing in at least 60 percent of their school's matches. Athletes were nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices.
Tech will be on the road to take on No. 3 Texas on Wednesday.
