LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's basketball program has announced the signing of three junior college players and one high school player to National Letters of Intent. Alana Rumph (Keller, Texas/South Plains College), Dominic Seals (Dallas, Texas/South Plains College), Keisha Walker (Kansas City, Mo./Fort Scott Community College) and Jordan Jones (Suwanee, Ga./Collins Hill H.S.) will attend Texas Tech University in the fall of 2007.
This is head coach Kristy Curry's first recruiting class at Texas Tech and the class is ranked 10th in the country by All Star Girls Report. It is the first time Tech has had a top 10 recruiting class by ASGR in several years.
"This class will give us valuable experience with the loss of four seniors in Brooke (Baughman), Chesley (Dabbs), Alesha (Robertson) and Patrice (Edwards)," said Curry. "We are excited to have them join our Lady Raider family. We will hopefully add some additional players in the late period as our staff continues to work and build this program."
Rumph, a 5-9 guard, played in 25 games for South Plains College in 2005-06 as she averaged 9.9 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 25 minutes of action and was named honorable mention all-conference. Rumph, a 2005 graduate of Fossil Ridge High School, averaged 17 points, eight rebounds and three assists per game. She was all-state, all-region and District MVP as a senior. Rumph is ranked as the No. 6 JUCO player by All Star Girls Report.
"Alana has a tremendous work ethic and knowledge of the game," Curry stated. "She is one of those players that does all of the little things to make her team better. She can really add to the depth at our wing position."
Joining teammate Rumph is Seals, who hails from Dallas, Texas, and graduated in 2005 from Dallas Lincoln High School. Seals, a 6-2 post, originally signed with Texas Tech in November of 2004 before attending South Plains College. In her first year at SPC, Seals averaged 19.1 points and 9.2 rebounds in route to being named honorable mention Kodak All-America. She was also selected first team all-conference and first team all-region. Seals played in the first-ever NJCAA/WBCA All-Star Game. While in high school, Seals averaged 17 points, seven rebounds and eight blocks. As a senior, she was all-state, all-region, a TAGC All-Star and DISD All-Star, an Adidas Top 10 All-American, District MVP and Class 4A Defensive Player of the Year. Seals is ranked as the No. 2 JUCO player by All Star Girls Report.
"Dominic will make an immediate impact at the post position," said Curry. "She has tremendous athleticism for her size and is as quick to the ball as any post player I have ever seen. She has always wanted to be a Lady Raider and we are thrilled she will finally join us next season."
A native of Kansas, Mo., Walker,a 5-8 guard, attends Fort Scott Community College in Fort Scott, Kan., and graduated in 2005 from Hickman Mills High School. Last season at FSCC, Walker averaged 25.4 points, eight rebounds and six steals, while being named all-conference and all-region. As a senior at Hickman Mills, she was named the Kansas City Player of the Year. Walker is ranked as the No. 4 JUCO player by All Star Girls Report.
"Keisha is a combo guard who can really score," stated Curry. "Her athleticism and ability to breakdown a defense make her special. She has great handles and can really impact a game in a number of ways on both ends of the floor."
Rounding out this year's class of signees is Jones, a native of Suwanee, Ga., where she has attended Collins Hill High School her junior and senior years. Prior to transferring to Collins Hill H.S., Jones, a 5-9 guard, attended McEachern H.S. in Powder Springs, Ga. Jones is currently ranked No. 50 in the class of 2007 by Scout.com and No. 27 among all guards. She was all-state honorable mention as a junior, while being named the three-point shooting MVP and the top guard at Southern Prep Hoops. She helped lead her team to the Georgia 5A state championship in 2006 and her team was ranked No. 2 in the nation. Collins Hill High is preseason ranked No. 1 in the country this year. Jones averaged 12.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.4 steals per game as a junior, playing mostly only two quarters a game because of the State of Georgia mercy rule (starters didn't play the second half of regular-season games because of the point spread being so large).
"Jordan is a pure shooter that has unlimited range," Curry said. "She is a student of the game and really understands how to make everyone around her better. She comes from one of the top high school programs in the country. Jordan expects and understands how to win."
