THIS WEEK'S GAME
Texas Tech (6-5, 3-4 Big 12) faces South Division rival Oklahoma State (6-4, 3-3 Big 12) on Saturday at Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock in the regular season finale for the Red Raiders. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. and the game will not be televised. Texas Tech dropped its last outing at Oklahoma, 34-24, while Oklahoma State knocked off Baylor, 66-24, in Stillwater.
THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY
While Texas Tech leads the overall series with Oklahoma State, 19-11-3, the Cowboys won a 24-17 decision in Stillwater last season, which prevented the Red Raiders from posting the program's first 10-win regular season since 1976. Tech finished the season 9-3. OSU has won two of the last three in the series, but Tech has taken four of six matchups since 2000 and is 7-3 since the inception of the Big 12 Conference in 1996. The last time Oklahoma State won in Lubbock was in 1944.
WRAPPING IT UP AT HOME
Saturday's regular-season finale against Oklahoma State marks the fourth-straight season that the Red Raiders have concluded their schedule at home. Since the inception of the Big 12 Conference, Texas Tech has closed the regular season at home in seven of 11 seasons. Six of those came against either Oklahoma or Oklahoma State.
RED RAIDERS AGAINST THE BIG 12 CONFERENCE
Texas Tech holds a series lead over four Big 12 members, including Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State and Oklahoma State. Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas and Texas A&M all hold series advantages over the Red Raiders, while the series with Baylor and Colorado are tied.
KINGPINS
The Red Raiders qualified for postseason play for the 14th-straight season with their win over Baylor two weeks ago. Entering the season, Texas Tech is the only program of the 12 member institutions to boast an overall winning record each season since 1996. Others have finished at .500, but none have posted winning marks each of the previous 10 seasons.
LEACH ONE WIN SHY THIRD-PLACE TIE
Seventh-year head coach Mike Leach has 54 wins in his career at Texas Tech and needs one more to tie former Red Raider coaching great Dell Morgan on the school's all-time wins list. Morgan totaled 55 wins from 1941-50. Spike Dykes (1986-99) leads with 82 wins, while Pete Cawthon (1930-40) recorded 76.
FIRST HALF SCORING
The Red Raiders have a penchant for coming out of the gates early, having scored 232 of its 348 points this season in the first half. The second quarter has been the most productive as the team has produced 142 points (12.9) in the frame. On the flipside, Tech has scored 56 in the third and 57 in the fourth this season.
RED ZONE SUCCESS
Of 47 red zone attempts on the season, 29 have gone for touchdowns, while 11 others were field goals. The Red Raiders have an 85.1 percentage in the red zone this season. Defensively, the Red Raiders have allowed 29 successful trips in 33 visits to the red zone for the opposition. However, only 17 of those went for touchdowns, while 12 were field goals.
RED RAIDERS IN THE MIDST OF SCHOOL SCORING MARK
Texas Tech set a new consecutive games scoring mark against TCU and extended the streak against Texas. The run began with a 16-13 win over Texas A&M on Oct. 25, 1997, a week after dropping a 29-0 decision to second-ranked Nebraska. During its current run, the Red Raiders have scored 10+ in all but five games. During the run, two Tech opponents have come close twice to ending the streak - 1) Tech scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter at Texas in 1999 after going scoreless in the first three quarters, and 2) the Red Raiders poked one in the end zone in the fourth quarter at Colorado after being held scoreless through the first three.
Longest Scoring Streaks in School History
- 115 games - Began 10/25/97 with 16-13 win over Texas A&M in Lubbock (current streak)
- 106 games - Began 10/17/87 with 59-7 win over Rice; ended 12/29/96 with a 27-0 loss to Iowa
