RED RAIDERS OFF TO HOT START
Texas Tech improved to 8-1 on the season and is off to its best start since the 1976 season when that Red Raider squad started out 8-1. The 1976 team went on to finish 10-2 and is the last Tech team to win 10-plus games in a season. Texas Tech will play its final road game of the season next week at Oklahoma State before closing out the season at home against Oklahoma.
MAKE THAT SIX
Tonight's win over Texas A&M marked Tech's sixth-straight over the Aggies at Jones SBC Stadium since the 1995 season. Texas A&M's last win here was a 31-6 decision on Oct. 2, 1993.
TECH TIES BIG 12 WIN RECORD
Tonight's win over Texas A&M gave Tech its fifth win in Big 12 play for the second straight season. Tech needs just one more league victory to set a school record for Big 12 Conference wins in a season.
ANOTHER CAREER NIGHT FOR HENDERSON
Senior running back Taurean Henderson had another big night for the Red Raider offense and made another big mark in the NCAA record book. Henderson Highlights:
- Registered back-to-back 100-yard rushing games for the first time during his career as he finished the evening with 109 yards on the ground. Henderson rushed for 136 yards last week in a 28-0 win at Baylor and now has seven 100-plus yard rushing games in his four-year career.
- Became the fifth non-kicker in NCAA history to total over 400 points in a career. He currently has 408 points and is tied in third place with Boise State's Brock Forsey (1999-02).
- Moved into fourth place on the Tech single-season rushing TD list as he now totals 16 this year.
- Finished the game with four rushing touchdowns and now totals 16 this season and 49 in his career. His four rushing TD's marked a career-high and he is the first player to do so since Ricky Williams did it against Baylor in 2001.
SLAY SETS NEW BIG 12 RECORD
Senior free safety Dwayne Slay forced his eighth fumble of the season on A&M's first possession of the second half to set a new Big 12 Conference record. The previous record was seven by Texas' Derrick Johnson last season.
- Slay picked up his first interception of the season in the fourth quarter and turned in a 26-yard return.
MISCELLANEOUS RECORDS
- Sophomore place kicker Alex Trlica took over the top spot on the school career PAT list tonight as he added eight PATs and now totals 110 in his two-year career.
- Senior quarterback Cody Hodges moved into fourth place on the single-season passing TD list when he connected with Jarrett Hicks for a 17-yard touchdown in the first quarter. Hodges finished tonight's game with two touchdown passes and now totals 27 this season.
- Texas Tech's first quarter touchdown extended the Red Raiders scoring streak to 101 games. The Red Raiders have not been shutout since a 29-0 loss to Nebraska in 1997.
NOTING THE RED RAIDERS
- Cody Hodges connected with Jarrett Hicks for the first touchdown of the game with a 17-yard strike at the 12:22 mark in the first quarter. The touchdown came on Tech's first possession of the game and marked just the fourth time this season that the Red Raiders have scored a TD on their opening position.
- The Texas Tech defense held A&M scoreless on its opening drive of the game and has yet to surrender a touchdown on an opponent's opening drive this year. Tech has allowed two field goals on opening drives to Kansas State and Texas.
- Alex Trlica's failed attempt at a 36-yard field goal with 6:35 remaining in the second quarter snapped a streak of six-made field goals by the Red Raider sophomore.
- Junior wide receiver Jarrett Hicks finished with 147 yards receiving and finished with 100-plus yards for the fourth time this season and second in as many weeks. He now has nine 100-plus yard games in his career with the Red Raiders.
- Jarrett Hicks hauled in his second touchdown catch of the game to give Tech a 41-17 lead in the third quarter. Tonight's game marked the fifth multiple-TD game of his career and his second of the season.
