
Sang Earns Postseason Honor

Dallas, Texas - Philister Sang, a junior outside hitter on the Texas Tech volleyball team, was tabbed as the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, it was announced by the conference today.
Sang, a native of Nairobi, Kenya, ended the season with 500 kills which led the team and listed at fourth on the all-time season kills list. Her kills per game average of 4.50 was also team leading. She tallied 1,376 attempts, good for second on the all-time season attempts.
Sang posted 4.22 kills per game in Big 12 play. She ranked third in kills in conference matches this season. Defensively, Sang averaged 2.40 digs for the Red Raiders and 2.29 during the conference campaign. A transfer from Indian Hills Community College, she becomes the second player in five years from Texas Tech to receive newcomer honors (Kelly Johnson, 2001).
Sarah Pavan (Nebraska) has been named Big 12 Player of the Year while Husker mentor John Cook was chosen Coach of the Year for the second time in his career. Jordan Larson (Nebraska) was chosen Freshman of the Year. Larson's teammate Jennifer Saleaumua received her second straight Defensive Player of the Year accolade while Tatum Ailes (Missouri) was selected Libero of the Year.
